Formerly the "DOUGLASS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHOIR", Gary, IN, and the "CHILDREN OF GARY CHOIR", the International Youth Choir is an extension of LISA GOOCH "JAZZ" ENTERTAINMENT.
After having envisioned performances with an elite children's choir (in several dreams during her childhood) Ms. Gooch was eagerly inspired to form a children's choir, but needed direction in getting started. In her dream, the girls wore strikingly beautiful white dresses and the boys' attire was accented with comma bonds and bow ties. Her uncertainty was satisfied when Ms. Alfreda Peterson approached her about starting a school choir where she served as Principal at Douglass Elementary School, Gary, IN. Ms. Gooch gladly accepted the request and immediately made preparation to begin, as Ms. Peterson offered infinite assistance, where needed.
Upon the bloom of the group's inception, Ms. Gooch realized that the wonderful elements that had not been shown to her in her childhood dreams, were the two Princesses of her life (her precious daughters who were also students at Douglass) when the choir began. Their loving and caring childhood memories reign in her heart as she's reminded that a quality music foundation for them was her ultimate goal. The girls continue to assist and mentor the children, now that they're adults.
SARITA & EBONEE
"Douglass School Choir" gained much exposure and publicity, as TV news reporters, cameramen, newspaper companies, and videographers rushed to document their amazing performances. The choir rapidly gained increasing clientele, as they attracted new members from other Gary Schools. For this reason, the name was changed to "Children of Gary Choir". The voices on the first upcoming C.D. are all youth from Gary, IN. For this reason, that name will remain an entity to the, now, "International Youth Choir". Ms. Gooch's travels with her music career affords her the wonderful opportunity to share with youth, internationally. Collaboration between her United States groups and her groups outside the U.S. forms an international establishment.
LISA GOOCH "JAZZ" was awarded an "EXCELLENT SERVICES" PLAQUE by our Honorable Board Members at her August 28, 2010 Concert (celebrating 40 yrs. of music services to NW IN & ABROAD). @ Chicago Du Sable Museum of African American History ** August 28,2010
We endeavor to musically educate, promote, and inspire youth to strive for excellence. We strive to address the need for children to function in loving and creative environments, to take leadership roles, and to work in diverse settings; also to learn, understand, and appreciate different cultures. We stress the success of non-violent ways to resolve all issues among children. This enhances self-esteem and produces positive leadership. We further endeavor to present on-going self-sponsored events, activities, workshops, conferences, etc., where the children are responsible for completing timely tasks. Their responsibilities will enhance their independence and leadership skills.
We were scammed (by an Illinois "posing" recording studio) out of more than $3,000 during our first recording project, regretfully. Ms. Gooch and the children professionally fulfilled their financial obligation and roles in the studio, only to learn that the posing engineer wasn't really an engineer. He recorded with "distortion", submitted the Master on VHS (rather than on Adat, as promised), and confessed to not being familiar with his newly-bought recording equipment, after we had reached our limit with his insufficiency.
We will continue sponsoring music events to recoup our lost funds, so that our recording project can be completed and we can more widely spread our musical inspiration to all. Your financial contributions will assist with the purchase of our own recording equipment, so that Ms. Gooch can gain knowledge of how to lay our own tracks and keep our projects under our own roof. Though this is taxing on her time, we are not interested in placing our projects under anyone else's roof and risk being taken advantage of, again. Our C.D. sales will also serve as one of our fund raisers for a permanent facility for rehearsals and performances.
PARENT MEETINGS are held from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. after each "first" rehearsal of the month, at the rehearsal location. All Parents are asked to either attend or send an Adult to represent your child.
Parents are asked to be sure to receive an Enrollment Packet. They are available at all rehearsals and Parent Meetings. The Items within the packet that must be returned as confirmation of child's enrollment are: 1) Permission Slip and 2) Rules & Misbehavior Fees Notice "Pink".
Please be sure to mail your Quarterly Stipends (outlined on our "Guidelines" Form) to our P.O. Box address, below. This assists with our Music Instructor's expenses. Please mail before the first rehearsal of January, April, July, and October of each year, so that preparation for your child's instruction can be made in a timely manner. Thank you for supporting our endeavors and allowing us to share in your child's musical development.
Parental participation with fund raisers helps us to reach our goals. Thanks for participating.

MS. LOLIETTA WASHINGTON was the first Parent who was involved with the choir. She gave of her time, endlessly, and taught dance choreography to the choir Members, while the name was DOUGLASS Elementary School. Her son and daughter were also Members of the choir. They are greatly missed.
MRS. BELINDA JOHNSON-KELLY was greatly involved when the choir was formed in 1993 as DOUGLASS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHOIR. Her daughter, SHAWNAY WARD-MOORE, was an active Member at that time. They remained with us until Douglass School closed in 1995. Mrs. Kelly was very active at Douglass and all of the Choir Members appreciate and gave her a warm reception, as she took initiative to assist with the choir wherever needed at rehearsals and performances. In this photo, she is posed with our Former Choir Member, ROYLETTA RICE, who was in the choir during that time, also. We're pleased that Ms. Kelly has remained in her life and supported Royletta's graduation. Mrs. Kelly is greatly missed.
MS. ANDREA HENDERSON was greatly involved when the choir was formed in 1993 as DOUGLASS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHOIR. Her son, ???????, was an active Member at that time. They remained with us until Douglass School closed in 1995. All of the Choir Members appreciate and gave her a warm reception, as Ms. Henderson took initiative to assist with the choir wherever needed at rehearsals and performances. Ms. Kelly is also greatly missed and kind deeds will never be forgotten.
MR. & MRS. EXPOSE are greatly missed. They are the proud Parents of Jatika Expose. They were most dedicated, supportive, and dependable at all times. Ms. Gooch reflects on her greatest appreciation from them as they extended themselves to even see her home after performances and helped her to unload her music equipment. Mr. Expose often accompanied Ms. Gooch and the choir, from time to time. Mrs. Expose was also a wonderful and professional Administrative Assistant for the Choir.
MS. JANICE HARRIS is also greatly missed. She is the proud Parent of Jessica Harris. She was most dedicated, supportive, and dependable at all times. Ms. Harris had a wonderful way of stepping in to complete ideas, goals, bringing Parents together to work as a team, and over extending her team to assist with completing tasks. Her professionalism and awesome leadership skills added to our choir. She is greatly missed and welcome to return at any time. Ms. Harris was also a wonderful and professional Administrative Assistant for the Choir.
MRS. JUANITA EVANS is also greatly missed. She is the proud Grandparent of Albion Josiah. Her warm, sweet spirit always filled the room at our rehearsals, as she would gracefully blend in with the instruction at hand. The children enjoyed how she assisted with Vocal Coaching, sang along, and often played piano and serenaded, as a wonderful tactic for helping the children to develop tone pitch. She unselfishly worked in which ever capacities that were needed, as her schedule permitted.. She is greatly missed and welcome to return at any time. Her relationship with Albion is one of the greatest examples for Grandparents.
CONGRATULATIONS, KATIE!! WE LOVE & MISS YOU!!!

Ms. Gooch's hope is that she has been introduced to the children early enough in life where high quality values can be instilled and upheld, so that our Members do not, knowingly, place themselves in harm's way, by spending quality time with the wrong company. Sometimes, it can cost our lives. Let us join Ms. Gooch as she regularly includes God's protection over the children, during her prayer and fasting.
To all of our past choir members who are now much older and broke my heart as you moved on and bloomed into more precious angels of mine, my prayers are with you each and every day. We welcome your "presentable" submission for this section. I ask God to guide and keep you in his perfect will. It was such a joy sharing with you and offering my time and talents as a means for showing you positive ways to focus your never-dying energies. My hope is that our motto to always show sisterly and brotherly love will remain in your hearts forever. We were brought into each others' lives for a wonderful purpose. It is up to us to nourish our blessed unions and keep them alive. I love hearing from you and running into many of you, as I meet your new families. I'm honored to have received so much wonderful feed-back from you and your parents. Remember to give back to your communities, as we have freely given to you. You just may help to save a child's life.
With all of my love,

OUR BEHAVIOR RULES & POLICIES SUMMARY:
Our "official" RULES & MISBEHAVIORAL intervention procedures are included with our ENROLLMENT PACKET that Parents receive, upon enrolling their children into our Music Program. Though we enforce a caring and loving environment for our youth, we are very firm about classifying the level of offenses that may be committed against our organization. Discipline is a vital part of child-rearing, as it takes a village to raise a child.
Much sacrifice, time, and expenses have been dedicated towards building and polishing our organization, on a daily basis, since 1993. Therefore, we are not an organization who takes criminal offenses lightly. We're thankful that dealing with criminal offenses have not played a role in our development. On the other hand, we want to make it perfectly clear that Youth or Adults endeavoring to commit fraud against our organization, solicit unauthorized funds, duplicate our documents without written permission of Ms. Gooch, unauthorized sales of our products, unauthorized televising or airing of our productions/performances, etc., will be dealt with, based on their level of criminal history as it is presented to us. Youth with histories of Adult-like minds that premeditate crimes of fraud against our organization will be dealt with on those terms.
We partner with public school systems and law enforcement and have zero tolerance for criminal activity against our choir members and organization. Our promise to our Members and families is that we will not be "passive" in the event that such incidents should arise. Such incidents would be a direct insult to our intelligence and are expressions of lack of integrity and respect for who we are and what we stand for.
Criminals tend to target very active citizens or organizations who, seemingly, won't learn (early on) about their offenses. As we contend with producing "quality" citizens to serve as positive role models, we stand prepared to address crimes committed against us. We trust that Participants' intentions are good.
Funds received from our product sales assist with our incurred expenses and items listed on "Our Tangible Needs" list on this web site. We truly appreciate your support. Please allow two weeks delivery for mail orders.
